Select the appropriate impression coping by matching the implant size and the profile of the healing abutment the surgeon placed at second stage surgery (the surgeon should provide this information, manufacturer’s color code implants and all corresponding parts).
Take a stock or custom impression tray and place a hole in the area the implant is located.
Remove the healing abutment with the hand driver.
Place the impression coping into the implant, line up the hex and hand tighten. Take a radiograph to ensure the impression coping is completely seated.
Try-in the impression tray and make adjustments if necessary to ensure tray will seat over the impression coping.
Inject impression material around the impression coping, load and seat the open top impression tray and locate the impression coping screw protruding through the hole. Allow impression material to set per the manufacturer’s instructions.
Loosen the screw with the hand driver and remove. Remove the impression from the mouth, the impression coping will remain in the impression. Immediately replace the healing abutment. Check the impression for accuracy.
Make an impression of the opposing arch; take a shade and a bite registration. Pictures are very helpful!
Send impressions, bite registration, and a prescription to the laboratory. Please include the impression coping screw!
